EpilepsyU was recently notified by Everyday Health about their new episode airing this Saturday, October 22 on local ABC stations. This episode will feature a young man with epilepsy meeting his new best friend: a service dog from Canine Assistants.

We thought the EpilepsyU community would like to know about this show, it is all about helping others and “paying it forward”. To watch please check your local listings and tune it to watch the full show on your local ABC station on Saturday!

A little more about Canine Assistance for Persons with Epilepsy:

Special dogs with special training

Seizure response dogs can:

  • Retrieve a phone prior to a seizure
  • Summon help in a controlled environment
  • Stay with their person during a seizure
  • Some are reported to warn of impending seizures

These dogs not only provide assistance, they can instill confidence by enabling their recipient to do activities they may be reluctant to do because they have epilepsy. They also provide companionship and contribute to the overall emotional well-being of the person they are placed with.

A little more about the Everyday Health TV series:

Each week, co-hosts (and survivor winners) Laila Ali, Ethan Zohn, and Jenna Morasca bring you inspiring stories of people who have been affected by a health crisis and who are now “paying it forward,” delivering a message of hope and healing to others with that condition. Whether it’s surprising a cheerleading squad for children with disabilities with an appearance from one of their celebrity idols, or coordinating a Flash Mob to raise awareness for cystic fibrosis, theEveryday Health team is there to make these dreams come true — and to celebrate the amazing strength of the human spirit.Everyday Health helps you feel good — and feel better — every day.

If you are interested in helping a charitable organization that is working hard to provide these service animals:

4 Paws for Abilityis a great organization, In fact they were responsible for training the dog recently given to Central Florida girl, Taylor Merriam, view the myFox Orlando Article and video here: “Paws for Princess Taylor“. This was a touching story of community effort! After part one of this story was aired, donations poured in to help this young girl get the companion of a lifetime.

More about 4 Paws for Ability:

Do you know of a disabled person who needs a service dog? 4 Paws for Ability has few restrictions for acceptance and works with most families within the boundaries of our organization’s ability to train and place the type of dog needed. We say “yes” when many more traditional assistance dog placement agencies say “no.”

Our founder is alive today because of a service dog. She’s devoted her life to making the same kind of help available to other disabled children and adults.

Please help us continue to build our meaningful, rewarding work. Your help will be a life-changing actfor a child, a family, a dog, and for you (it’s more than a project!).
